Great ReelI fish crappie and rainbow trout with this reel. I have the CMA500,EX1000,CX1000, which are all the same reel, but different paint job and year. I even bought the combo when it was on sale. I have 16 rods/reels to play with, but the Crappie Max are the go to reels. I caught a 4.5# trout on an ultra-light combo. Now that was fun. In the future when I start replacing my reels, I will definitely stay with Crappie Max. I will put this reel up against my Pflueger Trion TR125 any day as far as the smoothness and action go.

Excellent value for the $$$Bought this for a crappie expedition during Christmas last year. Since then, I have used it a bunch for Bluegill. It not only performs well on Bluegill, but have landed numerous 1lb+ Bass on it. loaded with #10 braid, works flawless..

Two piece drag handle! The top of the spool drag setting is 2 piece and your line gets in between the two pieces causing problems. I pulled it off and other than looking different it seems to function properly. I haven't used it since removing the two screws and the top piece, but I will update upon using. I caused my line to break while throwing 4-5 times before I changed poles!

Ultra Lite AwesomenessI bought this reel about a year ago. I was looking for an ultra light outfit that wouldn't cost too much. I mostly fish for bass but my 10 year old loves to fish for Bluegill on tiny crank baits like the Yo-Zuri Snap Pea so I needed something that could throw light lures. I Paired this up with Bass Pro Shop's 7' Micro Lite Glass Spinning Rod for a total of $40. I added some 2lb test and this thing is AWESOME. I can cast a mile, the drag is good, the anti reverse is rock solid and it cranks nice and smooth. This is a great reel for creek fishing. It's made specifically for panfish so I don't feel that it will perform well on larger fish because it's just not designed for that application.

Smooth but not greatI have used this reel for over a month now, and I have never experienced so many line twists with a reel. It seems that every trip I have to dig out an unending tangle in the reel. I fish about 4 times a week, and I use primarily spinning tackle, and I might get a major line twist one out of every ten trips out, but with this reel, I get two each trip, and I'm spending a lot of time cutting line.
Do you have a part s diagram of either of there reels. The line got wrapped inside the spool around the spindle shaft. I had to partially dosassemble the reel in the boat and lost the spring washer that fits either under the spool or under the drag nut.

would this reel be good for trout fishing , 2 lb test line. a starter reel for my son
Asked by: spud
Yes, you can land large trout on 2 lb line if the drag is set correctly. I prefer spinning to closed face reels. I would not recommend baitcasters to a beginner.
