Fresh Water OnlyI gave it a three because there was nothing wrong with the chain, it just was not suitable for the purpose it was sold to me for. No fault of BassPro, just my failure at due diligence. This chain looked like it would do the trick (to a freshwater fisherman who had no idea about the corrosive properties of Salt Air). I installed it on my anchor and forgot about it because I considered an anchor as required emergency equipment. When I decided to anchor to fish (over a year later) I discovered that the chain was so rusted I would not consider using it. Though it had never been submerged in salt water the wet salt air getting in to the anchor locker had been enough to cause major rust. If you fish in or store your boat near salt water, go with galvanized, it is not as pretty but will last longer. When you are outfitting your boat, if you are not familiar with the local conditions, talk to a fisherman, not a salesman.

Not sure about this oneI bought the chain to help hold my anchor down and so it would hook better. I haven't used it yet, but I've anchored a lot of boats and I'm thinking that the chain is so light weight there won't be much difference between using the chain and just plain rope. The tail will be told when I actually drop the hook, but I'm thinking 4' feet of 3/8" chain would be much better. I also thought the coating would help provent scratches on the boat - I don't think so. the coating looks like paint and not epoxy.

Anchor will rust from the inside outHighly discourage you from buying this for saltwater use. You cannot see what is going on inside that pvc coating. If your worried about rust then buy a galvinized anchor and chain.
