Bass Pro Shops CatMaxx Monofilament Fishing Line
Our Bass Pro Shops® CatMaxx™ fishing line was developed for stalking big cats wherever they swim. Infused with a high-viz green color, this line makes strikes easy to detect under any conditions; great for night fishing, as it glows green under a blacklight. Formulated for superior abrasion resistance and knot strength, Bass Pro Shops CatMaxx line boasts the muscle to drag big fish out of all types of cover—yet its hard finish promotes smooth, accurate casting. So don't be afraid to put your bait right in front of those whiskered faces, no matter where you find them.

Breaks Too Easy! When I saw this line at my local BPS I was hoping it would be a new "go to line" due to the price point and features. I ended up being very disappointed. I bought the 30lb test and spooled this up on my Shimano Baitrunner 6000D. Out of the box/spool it behaved like most mono/copoly lines of 20lb test or higher do. Some twist and play but that's to be expected. Over time and use they tame down or you can use line conditioner, let your line out etc, we all have tricks. What I should have done before I spooled up was TRY SOME TEST KNOTS. I use 3 or 4 different lines/brands for specific fishing/purposes and have tested which knots work best for each line depending on what they are connected to. I see if the line or the knot breaks when testing by either pulling by hand (not always easy to break) or by hanging weights on it. Typically for catfishing rigs I use a No Roll Sliding Sinker setup; Easy Snell on Octo/Circle hooks up to the swivel which gets a Palomar. Using the Easy Snell with this line it broke off above the hook in my hands rather easily. Tried it again, same result. Tried a Palomar on hooks and swivels, again it broke off rather easily just by pulling by hand. Uni, Clinch, Improved Clinch, Trilene Knot; same result, all break offs by hand on the line away from the knot. This line was thick like 30lb test but was breaking as easy as 10lb test. As a comparison, I grabbed some Trilene Big Game 30lb and couldn't break that by hand, had to put it in a vice and then play tug o' war to get it to snap. As a final test I took a section of the BPS CatMaxx and just pulled on it with both hands and made it break, and without wearing gloves. I returned this at my local BPS store without issue. I cannot recommend using BPS CatMaxx line until they improve it. Trilene Big Game, Stren Catfish Mono, P-Line CXX X-Tra Strong, and Ande Mono seem to be the best choices for a mono/copoly catfishing line at this time.
