Good beginning baitcasterBeen fishing all my life, and never have I used a bait casting reel. I can say that it was very easy to learn on. And the price is right, for the combo rod and reel set up. I did buy a right handed retrieve and due to using spinning reels my whole life it didn't feel right. Wound up switch to a left handed retrieve. So might want to get your hands on one before you order.
There is only one issue, and it's not a big deal. When reeling in the knob on the handle clicks. And what it is the plastic knob is loose so it slides and you can more feel it than hear a clicking. Looking at different handles, but it's a good buy.. Ohhh and one last thing when learning, use some heavy tackle. The light stuff will bird nest you pretty quick.

Never cast without the flippen featureAll my casting reels are Abu Garcia with the FLIPPEN FEATURE. Love this feature and wish it were on other reels.
My oldest Abu Garcia reels are from the '80s and still work great. I highly recommend any Abu Garcia reel as long as it has the flippen feature and wouldn't waste my money on a reel without it.

First baitcasterI was able set it up fairly easy and had good experience. Not to fancy and is in comfortable price range. Out on the water it casted well both in and out of wind. Very nice ergonomics. I like the thumb button/clutch to push for reduced backlashes.

A Go-To reel for sureI have had this reel for some time now and just recently put it thru serious testing. Catching bass like crazy and even held up to catching a muskie with no problem. Paired with a Vengance rod medium heavy and the action is non-stop! Oh, by the way, I caught a 6lb pike on it as well...

Very GoodI bought this with a gift card I received from a friend and have only used it a few times. It's a little noisy on the retrieve but otherwise a great reel. I put it on an old Ugly Stick 6.6 that I had and it works very well. I am happy with it. I did choose the express shipping from BPS but it took 9 days for the reel to arrive at my SC residence.

Best bang for your buck .I’ve fished the silver max for the past couple of years . I use my silver max to throw moving baits such as spinnerbaits and Crankbaits. Being a tournament pro kayak angler I put my Equiment to the test . This little reel out shines a lot of expensive reels . They definitely are part of my A Team !

First Love.I bought the BMAX3-L when it first came out, as my first baitcaster. Since the BMAX3-L, I've bought several Rexo Xs, S, SX, STX, InShore, Rocket, Beast, and MGXT. The BMAX3-L is the main reason why I fell in love with baitcasters and have stuck with Abu Garcia ever since then.

Hi, the Abu Garcia Silver Max Baitcast Reel is a freshwater reel. If you do use for saltwater make sure you clean the reel after each use so the salt will not build up in the reel. Rinse with fresh clean water.

Is it better than black max

Thank you for choosing Bass Pro Shops. Per the manufacturer the Silver max has 6 bearings comapared to the Black max that has 5 bearings. Other than the bearing count there is not a difference between the reels.
