Anti reverse not working in cold weatherGreat reel. Bought it for salmon fishing. Got the STX40. There’s a switch at the bottom that activates the reverse function of the reel so it spins freely backwards. I dont know what that feature is good for, drift fishing with a spinning reel I assume. When fishing in cold weather, the anti reverse complex bearing buggers up and regardless of the position of the switch the reel spins backward freely. Not fun when you get a fish on.
I do not recommend this product or any other with the anti reverse bearing.

My favorite spinning reelI've used a lot of spinning reels in the past, including other Abu's, and this is definitely my favorite spinning reel. Very smooth casting and retrieve. Excellent drag. My only "wish" is that this reel would come with a spare spool like the SX series does. It's not often that I use the backup spool, but when something happens to your main line, or you want to switch line types / sizes, it's nice having that filled spare spool handy.

No dependabilityI got this reel to use in some local tournaments as my heavy dropshot reel. I must say, when I hook a fish, the reel starts to back reel on its own. I almost lost a couple fish during a tournament because of this. I checked and the switch wasn't even engaged.

Top LevelThis reel is right up there with the Stradic Ci4+ and Daiwa LT reels. I have always been a Japanese reel enthusiast, but bought this reel after Abu's great customer service concerning rods. I still own numerous reel brands, but this one sure sees a lot of time. It is matched to a Light powered 6' TFO rod, was previously on a 7'ML Villain 2.0. I just enjoyed the Revo STX20 so much I wanted it on my truck rod where I could use it all the time. The weight is light, drag is perfect, cranking is smooth, and this reel has something others do not. The STX has a large bearing under the drag knob that seems to assist when big fish take runs; you won't find this on similarly priced competitors.
It is hard to find something wrong especially when I know Abu has my support if something does go bad. I read a few reviews about the anti-reverse failing in cold weather, but I have fished mine down to 20 degrees with no concern. If I had to give one complaint, the gears could be a tad bit tighter like the Japanese competition, but this is miniscule and I have to force myself to notice this.
I would like you to recommend what line (mono and fluoro) to buy for the " Abu Garcia REVO2STX10 reel" ?

To begin, it is important that you properly match the size of line you wish to put on your spinning reel to the size of the reel itself. Heavier monofilament and fluorocarbon lines do not perform well on spinning reels because the diameter of the line is large enough that the spooled line will jump off the reel spool when casting. This creates monstrous backlashes that are not easy to fix – plus it wastes time on the water.
Superline is super easy to manage and casts very well – plus the great thing is the durability of superline allows you to just change out leaders everyday instead of respooling the entire reel.
Monofilament is considered your basic multiple use fishing line. Monofilament and Co-polymer lines are the most popular lines as well as the best sellers. It is the most commonly used all around line but its not a good option if you want to do well with certain techniques. It comes in a several different blends that all have different properties. Some have less memory and some are softer than others while others still are stiff and resistant to abrasion.
Fluorocarbon line is fairly new to the fishing world but it has already made its mark. It looks very similar to monofilament but it has a lot of different properties making it the superior line of the two. It is a lot less visible under water than monofilament and because its light refractive index is almost the same as water so when its penetrated by sunlight the fish cannot see it. By using finesse techniques and fishing in clear water, you will get more bites when you use fluorocarbon. It’s also a very dense line so will sink plus it has a very low stretch and is more resistant to abrasion.
