Poor Musky Reel - Buy a Calcutta 200bI hate to be negative, but this is our least used reel. We do a lot of musky fishing on the Susquehanna River in PA and this reel just isn't cut out for it in my opinion. We started purchasing more rods so we could have several lures loaded at a time and make a quick, easy switch; so we were shopping on a budget to minimize cost. We made the mistake of buying a C4 and it's the least favorite reel for anyone to use; we rarely pack it and frequently pawn it off on others that tag along. haha. If you're looking for a budget musky reel, just save up more money and buy a Shimano Calcutta 200b; It's night and day better. We also have a Calcutta 300te, Tranx 500 in PG and HG. A Calcutta 200b is nearly as good as the more expensive reels and is one of the most versatile. Most people looking at this reel are on a budget, as were we, and from years of fishing with this reel and my others, the Calcutta 200b would be a far better investment in my opinion. You don't know the difference until you fish with a superior reel though, so i'm sure some people think the C4 is good. Just my two cents to help out any fellow musky hunters getting started. 4600C4I've used these reels since the early 90's for worm fishing . Bought a pair and still use them to this day . Bought a new one for a backup .

Set's the bar highAbu Garcia make the best reels period. Level wind moves side to side on the cast and retrieve unlike most others which only move on the retrieve. Casts smooth, reels smooth. I've beat this reel up with some big musky jerk baits for 10 years and never had a problem.

Abu Garcia familyAbu is all i will ever buy. I have a few older than me that dad gave me. you nkeep them clean and oiled and they put fish in the boat. I will not let you on my boat without one.

Great ReelBought this a month ago to put on a 8 foot musky rod. Have cast it hundreds of times with musky lures already on a 2 week trip to the French River. Worked flawlessly
Was using it when caught and released a 53 inch musky. An excellent reel with all you need to troll or cast, no extra bells and whistles to cause problems..

I would suggest the Ambassadeur C4 Classic Round Baitcast Reel. This reel is specifically made for muskie fishing.
