Freespool lever sticksI have a few C3's, a C4, various vintages, the "Striper" model, the Black one, etc. Nothing purchased within a year. While they are wonderful in every other regard, they have ALL had the same problem since new....if there is any tension on the line, the free spool thumb bar (or the push lever...) won't push down and will not release the spool. Fishing with very light lures hid the problem until I tried using a sinker of 5-6 ounces. Here's a scenario: Sit on a pier, hang a baited hook and a 5 oz sinker over the water, with a few feet of line already hanging out. Press on the thumb bar to drop the bait into the water....nope, the bar won't move, the spool won't release unless I pull the spool back with my thumb. That's not so awful, but If I try to cast the weight, forget it!. Am I the only one having this problem? Can you suggest a fix?

Designed to FailI’ve owned 4 versions of Abu Garcia round reels over the last 6 years, and have FINALLY cracked the code. The “cog wheel” in the left side plate is made of vinyl plastic, and interfaces with the brass worm gear. This gear WILL fail after 20 or so hours of use, and the level wind will stop working. After I discovered this I figured I would just swap it out with one of the 3 broken Abu’s I have - they were ALL broken the same way. While Abu will repair it if it’s still under warranty, it will again fail within about 20 hours of use. An aftermarket upgrade is available, but I’ve had it with this kind of company. I’ll buy Diawa from here on out

The Best Reel On The Planet!I've been using Abu Garcia 6500 C3 reels for 15 yrs and im here to tell u that they are the TOUGHEST reels on the face of the Earth. if anyone says different its LIES! #ABUFORLIFE

Catches giant fish!Amazing saltwater reel and is capable of horsing in giant fish. Super durable and reliable reel. Bite alarm is super helpful. I went pier fishing with a friend and we caught a 20 pound redfish then a 30 pounder.

best reel you can buy !!this is my second ambassadeur reel. bought my first one in 1991 landed 3 steel head, bunch of lingcod and a lot of salmon, including a 45 lb. king salmon. the reel caught those fish. no other small body reel would do the same. they simply burn up !! buy it, you will not regret it, PROMISE !!. i fish for trout now in the mountains of Arizona. what a blast.

Simply the best for the money!I own a Striper guide service in central Va and have 40 of these on my two boats and all my guides use them as well. Drag system is the bomb, very reliable.

what is the size difference?
What is the size difference between the 5500 and the 6500? Is it the spool size only? Or are the frames different sizes?

The frames are different sizes. They are the same diameter on the side but the 6500 is wider from end to end.
I have the 6500 and it is still easy to handle.
