Great valueGreat value for the price. Use it for catfish on the snake River. Fished dam tailraces with 6 oz no roll sinkers, good heavy action rod, don't throw cut bait off the hook when casting. Even though heavy action, still could feel Small suckers trying to rob me blind.

Best bang for your buckI have 4 of the big game combo 10' and they've performed great. I only use them for surf fishing when we go to Florida in the winter and didn't want to break the bank for only 2 weeks of use every year. We have caught many fish with them and continue to be pleased with their performance. Thinking of ordering 2 more this winter to get more lines in the water.

A Bit DissapointedI purchased the 6'-6", 2-piece, big water combo and was very disappointed that there is not a guide on the lower section of the rod (my older model rods do have a guide on the lower section), making it difficult to store with a swivel or leader attached (unfortunately the website doesn't show a picture of each individual rod or I would have opted for a longer 2-piece rod with a guide on the lower section).
Although it seems to be much more common now a days, I am not a fan of the reel lacking a lever to disengage the anti-reverse and , for that reason, will probably end up giving it away.
I am still quite satisfied with the quality, strength, and durability of the rod and the reel is a good deal when purchased as a combo.

Terrible reelI bought this combo about 6 weeks ago. Replaced the reel at the last minute prior to 2nd trip with combo. Had to replace due to reel “sticking” upon initial crank on retrieve. Took reel apart this evening and bearing are corroded. To say I am disappointed in the quality is an understatement

Great rod for getting into larger gamefishThis purchase was for my son. He has primarily fished for smaller fish but now wants to move on to larger game. After using Ugly Stiks for many years now, I knew which rod to get him. I would have given 5 stars however I thought it was odd that this rod did not have a guide on the lower section. Since we normally keep the line on the rod when we break it down, there is no way to hold the line in place other than to lock the line with the reel. Other than that, awesome rod!!

Great combo!I bought this 12ft. for shore fishing for sharks and rays.
I love how smooth the reel is/ strong the rod is with fast action tip.
I thought I would have to replace the reel but after using I have changed my mind!
I searched for a quality combo at an affordable price and this was THE BEST option. This combo did not disappoint.

Is this a rod and reel combo work well for Ak silver salmon?

These would not have as soft a tip as a true Salmon rod for detecting light bites, but would but up to the task as far as durability.

So im getting into saltwater jigging what would be the best rod or rod length for this?

Saltwater jigging rods are versatile fishing rods designed to keep up with the fast rod action required for successful jigging. Jerky, vertical motions are an essential part of good jigging, and a saltwater jigging rod is strong and tough enough to withstand these motions for long periods. At the same time, jigging rods are short and lightweight, and bend down when fighting fish to help take pressure off anglers. Jigging rods feature tough graphite and glass composite blanks, with features such as aluminum reel seats, wrapped guides, EVA grips and hook keepers. Most are designed to be used with braided lines, but some can use monofilament line as well. Jigging rods can even be used for other types of fishing where you need light weight, light action and high pulling and lifting power.
Rod and Reel
The basis of this system starts with using a short parabolic rod with a springy tip. Because of the physical style of this type of fishing, small light reels are important if your going to be saltwater jigging for a large portion of the day. Using a light reel either spinning or conventional with a heavy drag rating, around 40-60 pounds. Use a good drag rated reel such as a Stella 10k. adjust the drag to 30 percent of the rig’s line strength. For instance, if using 60-pound braided line, then set the drag at 20-25 pounds.

Other than surf and fly rods, the most common rod lengths used for light tackle striper applications are between six and seven feet. The longer the rod, the farther you can cast. A short rod gives you more strength and maneuverability. Shorter rods usually have less action making it easier to muscle the fish to the boat, while a longer rod will provide more play and can add to the action of your lures. Many good fishermen feel a shorter rod is more sensitive because there is less distance for the strike to travel before it is transmitted to the hands.
For casting top-water plugs try a six-foot six-inch or seven-foot medium action rod with medium heavy power. This rod gives me enough leverage for long casts and is stiff enough at the butt to handle big fish.
For jigging lightly weighted jigs up to one ounce try a six-foot to six-foot six-inch fast action, medium power rod. This rod is light enough so that you can feel the jig well, but not so heavy that it wears you out casting it. The fast tip provides plenty of sensitivity.
For jigging one to two ounce jigs, try a six-foot six-inch to six-foot-eight inch medium power rod with extra fast action. These are my most frequently used rods in the Chesapeake Bay. They’re also my most expensive and most sensitive rods.

is it good for salt water fishing

This particular combo isn't designed for saltwater, but like most freshwater combos it can be used for saltwater as long as you take the proper precautions. Namely that means you'll want to thoroughly rinse the rod and reel in freshwater each time you're finished using it. Salt air will cause these to corrode over time, but rinsing it will help prolong the rod and reel's lives. So, depending on what you're wanting to fish for, this combo work well for you.
