Description
Ruger American Rifle Standard Bolt-Action Rifle
The Ruger American Rifle® Standard is a bolt-action rifle built with innovative designs and modern materials to provide shooters with a practical and cost-effective firearm, meant for serious hunting. Ruger uses a 3-lug bolt design on the American Rifle with a 70° bolt lift, providing plenty of clearance to keep fingers and gloves from getting between the bolt handle and the riflescope. A 2-position tang safety is easily accessible and quick to operate by both right- and left-handed shooters; the bolt can be cycled for loading and unloading the rifle with the safety engaged. A cocking indicator at the end of the bolt can be seen and felt. Ruger designed the Marksman Adjustable™ trigger for the American Rifle to be user adjustable for weight-of-pull. The Marksman trigger is light and crisp, allowing for precision shooting in the field. The Ruger American utilizes a detachable, ultra-reliable rotary magazine that fits flush with the bottom of the stock, adding to the rifle's ease of handling. The stock is constructed from rugged composite with grooves and texturizing on the pistol grip and fore-end, providing a solid, non-slip grip in any hunting environment. The stock features molded-in, Power Bedding® recoil/bedding blocks to rigidly attach the barreled action to the stock and free-float the barrel. A soft rubber recoil pad absorbs recoil considerably. The American Bolt-Action Rifle comes with a drilled and tapped receiver, and scope bases. The Ruger American Rifle is a lightweight, fast-handling, and superbly accurate rifle meant for rugged use in the outdoors. Made in USA.

Good Budget/Entry Level RifleBought this in .243 as my first deer hunting rifle.
It checks all the boxes for me.
Shoots accurately so far.
Lightweight and easy to carry through the woods.
Bolt is nice in that it does not have much side-to-side play at all, though it is not buttery smooth. But that doesn’t matter when hunting.
One problem I have encountered is that when the magazine is full (4 rounds), I have to make sure I push the bolt forward in one quick motion. If I do it slowly, the round snags halfway and won’t load. But if I am mindful to do it properly, no issues. It’s a budget rifle though, I’m not complaining.
All in all I am pleased so far with this rifle at this price point. Now I need to shoot a deer with it!

Amazine hardwareI purchased this rifle and put a scope combination on it. the main scope ranges out to 320yrds. the optical scope is set at 150yrds and the red dot laser scope is set at 50yrds. everything performed very well and three shot grouping at 320yrds was 2.0 inches. I added camo this rifle and installed a bi-pod. same ballistics as my 300 win. mag with 1/5th the recoil. part available very reasonably priced from authorized Ruger Canada vendor. recommended to friends and family. Amazing Deer rifle.

Great RifleI purchased this rifle in 7mm-08 and promptly put a Bell and Carlson stock on it since that was my only feature I did not like from the factory. I topped it off with a vortex diamondback 3.5x10x50. I got it sighted in with 140 grain Winchester deer season xp and my final group at 100 was well within an inch. Great rifle that happens to be very affordable.

Excellent gunExcellent gun for the money, just an excellent gun period. It is designed and made to be used in the field. It is not fancy but will more than get the job done. I had no problem shooting sub moa groups at 10oyds using Hornady American Whtetail Hunter. This gun shoots well with Hornady interlock bullets! Gun is light, well balanced and made to get the job done.

Rotary Magazine was bad...replaced it with...I got the 6.5 Creedmore. It shot 1 inch three shot groups at 100yd using 140 grain Sellier & Bellot SP. The rotary magazine does not feed the long 140 grain bullets well. I've seen that some shave a U shape into the front so that the bullet will clear it and load. Another fix is to buy a Ruger American Ranch .450 Bushmaster mag. I went with the later and it feeds perfectly now but you lose 1 round worth of capacity. I don't think I will miss the extra round.

Great rifle.Happy with the rifle. Would have given 5 stars but the magazine has issues on occasion with feeding. Will order another Mag but may end up trying one of the YouTube fixes for the spring in the mag.
The Ruger American Rifle Standard Bolt-Action Rifle does not come with a scope rail.

Can this rifle, regardless of caliber, have a bipod mounted under it?
Asked by: SunDevil
Thank you for your question!
Most bipods I've seen attach to either a sling swivel stud, or a rail (mostly MSRs in the latter case). The rifle pictured here does have the sling swivel installed, so if you purchased a bipod designed for that, it would mount without issue.
I hope this information helps!

would this be a good all around rifle for deer, bear, pigs?

270 Winchester Extremely accurate, incredible kills, long-range capabilities, manageable recoil, incredible variety, and ready availability of factory ammunition are on its long list of attributes.
308 Winchester the 308 is one of the most popular calibers around, and there are plenty of reasons. Accuracy, long-range capabilities, good knock-down, manageable recoil, an incredible array of choice for factory loaded ammo as well as an almost endless list of components for the hand loader are just a few. .270 Winchester would be a great all-around hunting rifle.
30-06 The old 30-06 has been around since 1906 and is still extremely popular. Several people mentioned it as their all time favorite or as their second choice. Availability of ammo, knockdown power, and just about any style of rifle being available are among the first attributes listed for the 06. Its only drawback can be recoil if it is in an ill-fitting stock.
It is every hunter’s responsibility to be familiar with and know the capabilities and limitations of their rifle in order to become proficient with it.
The .270 Winchester, .308 Winchester, and 6.5x55 Swedish are wonderful, low-recoiling calibers that enjoy huge followings due to their ability to effectively harvest game.
Shooting a hog with a .308 seems to get the job done better than any of its competitors. The .270 is just simple and effective. Put in the right spot, a bolt-action .270 packs enough punch and penetration to get the job done on the little piglets, as well as the full-grown feral hogs!
