Merkel ~ 147SL Rare L.L. Bean Centennial Set ~ 20 Ga

For your consideration, a Merkel model 147SL chambered in 20 gauge. This piece is part of a four gun set released in celebration of the 2012 centennial of storied outfitter, L.L. Bean. Of five such sets, this is the fourth. All sets consist of a model 1620SL 16 ga, model 147SL 20 ga, model 280SL 28 ga, and model 360SL .410 ga. The French greyed receivers are deeply hand engraved with never-before-seen and never-to-be-repeated custom game scenes of a German Shorthaired Pointer flushing a trio of Ruffed Grouse at left, and a trio of woodcocks at right. The underside of the receivers are embellished with a scroll-bound, gold-inlaid image of L.L. Bean's inaugural product, the Maine Hunting Shoe, surrounded by likewise gilded centennial inscriptions, while the forearm latches, trigger guards, action levers, receiver tangs, and chamber areas are all engraved with fine Arabesque scroll work. Mechanical features include H&H style automatic ejectors, automatic safeties, hand-detachable sidelocks, double triggers, and double underlug lockup with Greener crossbolt. Across the board, furniture consists of skip-checkered English-wristed stocks and splinter forends retained via Deeley type release -both rendered in hand-selected, hand-rubbed, oil-finished Turkish walnut. Stock dimensions are as follows: 14 3/8" LOP, 1 1/2" drop at comb, 2 9/16 at heel, and 1/4" cast-off. The total price of the set is $60,000, and the set will not be broken up.
