Bounty Hunter® Challenger Metal Detector
I bought this has a gift for my husband, but when it arrived it wasn't in a box to conceal what it was and the delivery man handed it right to him. He came in the house grinning like he just won the lottery. Well the only thing I could think to say was that it was for our son in law because he's always losing his keys. He got real disappointed and went off sulking to bad he has to wait to Christmas.

Bounty Hunter Is Not A Toy
This unit is an entry level unit but it still has the same good discrimination that the more expensive BH models have. This machine will flat knock out iron if you choose to discriminate it out. I have owned White's, Fisher, and Garrett metal detectors and Bounty Hunter will discriminate as good as any other brand.
This particular model has a 7 inch coil so the depth is not as good as the other BH models. This is a good machine for a child or someone who doesn't know if metal detecting is for them. Why spend $500.00 on a metal detector if you are not sure you are going to stay interested?
My recommendation is to step up to at least the Tracker IV since it has a larger search coil and has a switch to select all metal mode which aids in pinpointing a target. Bounty Hunters cost less than most other detectors and some say that they look cheap but all of them are at least a full pound lighter than the other brands. Swing a heavy metal detector for a few hours and you will appreciate the light weight. The lower end Bounty Hunter models work well without all of the bells and whistles that frustrate some people.

The unit is able to pick up gold. What is important to understand is that it depends on the size, and how deep the gold nuggets are. The unit is able to detect a coin sized object about 6 inches deep, the bigger the item the deeper it will be able to detect it. Thanks
