great item to have on boat everyone has those times where you have an overly aggresive bass on and trebles are flying everywhere. you try to stick your hand in its mouth and you get a handful of hooks. this eliminates this. this is a great item to have in your boat when you are crankin or using anything with multiple trebles. also it helps the fish because you dont touch the fish and keep its protective slime coat on. i think its a must for every angler. it held up this 7 pound striper fine. Great holder for the price. I bought mine during the February sale.Excellent fish grabber even though the tape measure doesn't let out the full 36 inches. March 11, 2008
Better Than a Boga! A fish gripper is really needed if you do serious saltwater (or freshwater) fishing. I have friends with the Boga Grip, and it's a nice tool and all, but when I saw the price of $150 to $250 for a Boga, I was NOT paying that much. It's a lip-gripper, it shouldn't cost more than most reels. Then I came across this. I got mine on sale for $16 in the store from the online price (it was more in the store, but the manager honored the online price, go BassPro!). $16 is a heck of a lot better than $250! It works flawlessly and has almost an identical design to the real Boga grip. I have used it so far on a 4 foot barracuda (who was thrashing violently) as well as quite a few small snook. It's held up and hasn't budged and kept me out of that barracuda's teeth. No rust or anything so far. No stickiness or bad performance. Works perfectly! I talked to a few friends and they have this item as well. One of my friends leaves his on his boat and has had it there for 2 years and it hasn't rusted/stopped working. It works as good as the day he bought it. He's lipped tarpon up to 60 pounds on it with no problems. Another friend uses it to tie off as an anchor while he's on his kayak and he lips big sharks and snook all the time. For the price, you just can't beat this product and I have heard nothing negative about it so far. Just attach a float if your gripper ever decides to go swimming you'll still have it. You'll have this product forever. If you're cheap like me and can't afford a Boga, but want Boga quality, or want to get a fisherman a great gift that will last forever, GET THIS PRODUCT! Works just like it should My first catch of the season was a pickerel so i luckily got to use this. Worked just as advertised and allowed me to easily unhook the fish. I wish i got the one with the scale, that would be my only regret, nothing against the product though, just my fault. May 2, 2011

The package does state that the unit swivels.

Mine does with force. It does not swivel freely.

No clue about that, but mine doesn't swivel either. I don't think I'd want it to swivel anyways.
