The holes are soft rubber lined. No abrasion at all.

No abrasion at all with this. I could see it being an issue over time, if the line digs in to the plastic, but out of the box it has no catching. You would have to be using this a lot to wear it down enough to cause abrasion.

Not this particular box. But they do make one to fit bigger spools for about the same price.

there is a wider version of this box. It will hold about six big spools. It is also made by Plano.

I was told that when a baitcast is respooled it the line should be vertical. I heard that a spinning is supposed to be put on horizontal.

I don't think it really matters. I've spooled many spin reels sometimes sloppy with no problem. The main thing to remember is to keep a little tension on the line and don't use cheap line with a lot of memory or stretch. Stren is the best that I know of.

Yes that is very true. When spooling a spinning reel to minimize line twist is to hold it with either the label or the back of the spool facing the reel, and coming off the spool the same way it is going on the reel itself. using this box helps eliminate some of the line twist as it comes off the spool just the way it went on. I haven't used the line spooling station yet but I would give this a try item# 38-473-365-00. Other than that I would also recommend this little spooling box if your budget doesn't allow the purchase of the spooling station.
