i am going to be doing more river fishing than i used to do in the past. is this line a good option or would i need to use power pro because i am not going back to mono unless if i am fishing for smaller cats or channels . i also am a begginer for using braid on baitcasting reels and i had no clue what i was doing but any tips or teqniques that will help me out from not getting backlashes or birdnests.

I had a lot of problems with wind knots when I started using braid. I solved it by using a swivel. My theory is that when a bait spins, it wind up the line like a rubber band. Eventually the tension releases and you are spending time untangling line. The swivel prevents the spinning from torquing the line.

80 Pound Spiderwire has the diameter of about 15 Pound Mono. It is perfect for big catfish and you will like how it doesn't stretch. You have enough to worry about with current in the river, deep water, and the log jams that hold the big cats. With the 80 Pound Spiderwire, you won't have to worry about the line. Braid is great for hook sets especially in deep water. When you are setting the hook with braid, it won't stretch so keep that in mind with setting drag and the power you use on the hook set. As far as casting with braid, it is a little different because braided line lays flat in the reel. I set the spool tension and wind brakes on my baitcast reels so that the spool does not spin too fast. The spool tension knob next to the handle should be tight enough that your bait drops very slowly. Side arm casts when you have room on the river are better for avoiding backlashes than casting over your head. The main cause of a backlash is when something changes the speed that the spool of the reel is spinning. Sudden changes cause problems so just be smooth with your casting and get used to how Spiderwire casts in your reel before trying to throw a long cast way out in the river.Images for this Answer

ive been considering a braid.....need more line capacity on my baitcaster in a saltwater situation due to strong tides and big fish situations. I can beat the fish down but have a hard time pulling 50# of beaten weight against this tide. I dont want to size up my mono...i also dont want to deal with the line cutting in and the impossible but probable backlash. Stick with my 20# mono?? Size up my reel?? Or try braid? Open to suggestions!!Answers

The super braids are a good choice. They are smaller in diameter than the equivalent mono and are generally stronger than the package says. Also, they have much less stretch. However, they are very slippery, so be very careful with the knots and ONLY use the knots recommended for this line. And expect to hear a squeaky noise from the line rubbing on the guides if you retrieve under tension.A:
I've had no problems with backlash, #20 in invisi-braid is about like 6 lb test mono in diameter. In fresh water striper fishing I have found it to be very strong and to cast perfectly. This braid will about double your reel's line capacity. When I "hang" on a tree, I usually break the snap swivel rather than the line. excellent knot strength.A:
I do like the Fireline Camo braid. It does not have the problems that I've encountered with the Invisi-line.

I would go to braid. After I tried it, I put it on all my reels. The smaller diameter and higher strength has worked well for me. I would try 65# or 80# Spiderwire and use Palomar knots when you tie braided line. They have never pulled out or broken at the knot. Also use a looser drag because braid won't stretch. The stiffer the rod, the stronger the line you want. A stiff rod would break light line. If you try the 80# that has a diameter similar to 15# mono. That would give some extra yards with more strength and do it without sizing up the reel or mono.Details:

Johnr140, just try it. I kept my other Largemouth rods spooled with mono, and used one with Spiderwire 30lb. test, that way if I didn't like I could continue fishing. I now use Spider Wire on all of my Largemouth rod/reels.A:
I'd give it a 7-8. Like anything else, it has it's pros and cons. I won't use it on the ultralight outfit i use for small-stream trout fishing, but I've been gradually converting all of my other spinning outfits to this. Much less problem with tangles as it's limper than mono, and much easier to set the hook when a long line is out because of the very low stretch. It has an annoying squeak as it goes through the guides under tension, but I don't know if that bothers the fish or not. I still use a 6' mono leader; I've heard some don't. The only real problem is the knots. This line is very slippery, make sure you only use knots designed for it, and tie them VERY carefully.A:

Just another line. The invisibility is just an advertising gimmick. It's opaque. I do not like it. It quickly becomes too limp to use effectively on a baitcaster. I do like the Fireline Camo braid with a florocarbon leader. I use that line on numerous spinning and baitcasting reels. It retains enough body to not become limp and cause backlashes. It is also smooth and you don't have the braid "zinging" sound when you cast or retreive. I use 20, 30, and 50#. Go DAWGs!

hey John. I fish Spiderwire Ultracast Invisi braid all the time. Its not invisible its just a white braided line. But I do tell a differene compared to my green braided line while fishing clear water. But as long as you use a long fluro leader it does not matter. I would give it a 10. I love this line. No problems what so ever. Been using it since it came out

the line is white, when it is in a clear water lake it will be a little more effective but in a muddier water i found that the braid will slowly grow darker to an extent. Its not as clear as a monofilament, but there really isnt enough of a difference for the fish to notice in my opinionA:

Well, this is a complex answer. As you can see by looking at it it is really more of a white color than translucent. From what I have found personally from using the spiderwire Invisibraid (20lb) and Fireline Crystal (20lb) it is similar to the red lines that it dissapearsin 3 feet of water (depending on water clarity) In extremely clear water it is visible. So basically, it is not completely invisible. I have not found it to affect the number of strikes as compared to my other reels spooled with red, moss green, or black line. However I have decided to make it common practice to utilize Fluorocarbon leaders on almost all of my spinning and casting applications where braid is my main line spooled. Fluorocarbon leader material adds a lot of nice features. One it truly is invisible underwater as long as it is a good quality. I use p line, berkley vanish in heavier leaders 40lb and up for musky leaders and Seagar is an excellent line not talked about to much. The have mastered the fluorocarbon formula. Match the fluorocarbon line to the line test of your main braid on your spool and use a 2 way barrel swivel of equal or greater strength of your main line and as small as possible to connect the two. Make the leader about 6-18 inches long depending on the application. The other benefit of this is that Fluoro does have some stretch to it. Some people say that it actually has more stretch than mono. i am not sure about that but the extra little bit of stretch I have noticed helps me get better hooksets and more strikes overall. I used to have a problem with pulling baits out of fishes mouth due to the no stretch and high sensitivity of the braids and steel leaders. Now I rarely miss. A lot of people have pushed for fluoro as a main line on baitcasters but I have found that it is quite difficult to cast as very few companies have mastered the formula to reduce memory. The thicker diameter/lb test ratio is also not comparable to what you can get with braid. I typically use 20-30 lb braid on my low profile baitcasters for Walleyes, Bass and Northerns. This gives you a 6-8 lb diameter line that casts like a dream off of a low profile baitcaster and adding the fluoro leader makes for the most perfect presentation possible. However I have tried the Invisabraid and Fireline Crystal without fluoro leaders and also had success. I don't think there is a drastic reduction in strikes in dingy or dirty/murky water. Clear water where fish rely more on site it does make a difference and you need to use the fluoro leader for ultimate success. I use heavier 50lb-65 lb test on my musky reels. I would rate it a 2 or 3 and here's why. The whole reason I purchased the Spiderwire Invisi Braid was for the "Invisi" characteristic. In the types of freshwater I fish in South Florida this line practically glowed. I still think the manufacturers have a way to go to make a truly invisible braided line.Answers

I have read that the Spider Wire 30lb. braid is the equivilant of 8lb. mono

This line is 0.12" or else 0.30mm - whichever measurement you prefer to go by. As said before equal to 8lb mono.
