The rod is the pole that the reel attaches to. Your reel contains the fishing line and has a handle that you turn to "reel" in your bait. You need both a rod and reel for fishing.

I used this rod fishing for Northern Pike in Quebec this passed summer and it performed very well. I would be very comfortable using it for muskies, blues or any other good fighting fish.

Yes you can use this rod for other fish. I have used this rod for catfish more than any other species, but I have used it for bass, walleye, and muskie too and it works great for all of them.
