MP-10 is an excellent water based, corrosion inhibiting primer that’s designed for use on interior and exterior metal applications, but can also be used on concrete and wood. Chemically etches its way to a metal surface for a tighter bond. This versatile primer works great on boats and docks, but should not be applied if temperature is at or below 40° Fahrenheit. I have a painted aluminum hull and I will attempt to remove most of the paint with a rotating wire brush. My question is 2 fold, first will this work with aluminum, secondly how much paint needs to go, can the etching over come most of the residual paint?

You have to use this on aluminum, normal primer won't hold, and yes it works great, I've done two boats with it. My 10'x48" Jon boat took about a can and a half, you gotta make sure you get good coverage.Take a sanding block to the hull, like 100 grit, get as much of the paint off as possible, and then power wash it and wipe it down with a solvent to get any grease off your boat.
