I use mine to push away from objects that will scratch or ding my boat, to retrieve things from the water, to pull myself to a tie-off, to retrieve lures snagged in brush or rocks ( or anything snagged up). I've also used it to help a exhausted swimmer out of the water. The twist and extend feature allows you to select the perfect length.

if you've ever heard of a push pull pole, thats what i use it for. i use it for many different things but mainly for positioning my boat, on bedded bass for example. or if i have an expensive lure and get hung up in water too shallow to run the trolling motor, i'll trim up the big'n and the trolling motor and push/pull myself to my lure to retrieve it, even extend it to retrieve lures in deeper waters(off stumps, rocks, etc.), alot of uses for me.

It is good for guiding you boat into the dock and can also be used for moving "no wake" bouys
