This is how i use them its rather easey to use let your line out to the depth that you want what ever depth works for you after that clip on the board to your fishing line on the back of the board then in the middle of the board their will be a release clip your line from the pole to the release. your bait will be on the back of the board and the clip will be in the middle let your line out away from your boat as far as you would like we uselly run 4 to 5 boards on a side with different lours on each at different depth and we set each one a little shorter than the last one we set out 25 ft or so the fish useally pull the planner boards back so you do not get tangelled with the other boards so that is no problem.

my review explanes how i use it,however some use it from shore or bridge most inportant know what side you want it to go port-left..or starboard-right..when you buy one thay sell both..good luck.
