Koppers by far!!! Spro has good quality but what good is that if they can't hook up?

I would probably say the Koppers because it is a little bit softer and hook up ratios are a bit higher than the Spro plus it is a bit more life-like. Only problem with Koppers is that they are I think a bit higher on the price. When in doubt though compare their ratings and advantages/disadvantages.

In my opinion the Live target frog catches more fish than the Spro frog. I think Live target has more accurate color selections than Spro also. The downside with the Live Target is that after being eaten a bunch of times by fish the bait gets a bit softer and sometimes the bait will take on a little water, but that's a small price to pay for catching the amount of fish you're sure to catch.Details:
I want to start using a bait caster again but I'm on a budget (college student). I was thinking of purchasing the 7'6" Heavy Bass Pro Shops Tourney Special Baitcast Reel/Rod combo. I was told the extra length of the rod would help with the longer casts I need from a canoe but I am worried about the heavy backbone especially with a more finesse bait like a frog.. any thoughts?Answers

I know you don't want to be a big spender but I would consider looking at a 7' St. Croix Medium action rod with a Abu Garcia Revo S reel outfitted with some 12-15lb mono. The problem is this entire combo is probably about, at the most, $400-600. The rod is the priciest part but the reel is about $100-175. Also another good rod would be an ugly stick by Shakespeare which I believe is cheaper than $50, but it isn't a stiff rod and has a very sinsitive tip. Go with your gut feeling though.A:
With all the pressure that fish are seeing now days, you need to be as quiet as possible. Being able to make a long cast allows you to keep the noise to a minimum. You also need a rod with a good backbone to horse those puppys out of the trash.

hummm....good question! I think you should downsize to Medium heavy and still going with a 7' and over. I have a heavy johnny morris signature and I'm having a hard time when it's time to throw frogs unless they are very heavy. The heavy rods are a lot less flexible. So you don't have that whip when you swing it back and forth. I got a medium heavy 7'2'' and I cast my lures almost twice the distance than my Heavy 7'6''

A 6'6" to 7'6" rod should be good for the application. Try using a medium-heavy rod with a fast tip. If interested in the Tourney Special rods, you may want to look at item 38-130-211-00.Details:

Have you tried with other lures to see if there were any fish there? The best way (in my opinion) to use the spro bronzeye frog is to retrieve it in a pumping action. Almost the same retrieve you do for a popper. Pump it 6-10 times than stop and wait. Then start again. They work very nice around lily pads.

If you can fish in the grass {if the grass is in the water} or across holes in a grass mat. My cousin Arnie Lane {brother of Chris and Bobby Lane that are elite bass anglers in the Classic} showed me how to use it.

First, cut the strands (the feet) by about 1/2 inch to an inch. Try cutting less so you can experiment with it. Next, if you don't know how to walk the dog, now would be a great time. With this bait, you can get a great walk the dog with it that drives bass nuts. The last thing is where you are fishing. Try casting to the edge of the grass. If you are fishing around timber, let the bait hit the timber and pause for a few seconds. Start walking the dog again. Bass love it when there is a short (5-20 seconds) pause.A:

I don't exactly know how to fish them but as long as they don't sink during the first cast just squeeze them to get the water out every other cast.

Check out the product called Mend It. I use it to repair my plastic jig bodies. It might be worth a try on your frogs.

Short answer is..... you can't . Zap-a-gap glue works well on anything. Super glue may work. there is also a product out there called gorilla glue which is effective. It will continue to rip open no matter what you use.A:

I cannot get this frog to walk. I trimmed an inch off the legs and I still couldn't get it to walk. I can walk spook-type baits no problem but not this. I've caught bass on it chugging it but I feel like im not getting the most out of it. Is it me or the bait?Answers

I've always just twitched {without reeling in} to the point where I have to pause to reel in my slack. That's the only way work them and catch tons of fish.

I don't think you can get the true walking action like the spook. It is kind of a slack line twitch that makes it turn from left to right. It's not you.A:

it worked a few times for me when i would hold the but of my rod at my ear and bringing the rod tip to the water...i had the same problem....i hope this helps..i can post another answer if i find a better way.Details:
I cut one of my spro's not knowing how short I should cut the legs I trimmed them up 1inch and is 1in. to short?

I personally don't like to cut the legs at all because i think it looks more realistic in the water... but if u do cut it i would take maybe 2 inches off it so cut about 1 more inch off it hope this helps and good luck man :)

One inch should be ok but why are you trimming it. You are altering the action. The long skirt enhances the baits profile and action.

I cut about an inch off, but I cut them at an angle the wider part being along the outside to the inside of the body. This looks more natural.A:

I usually only take about 1/2" off. Different days will call for different lengths. Some days may call for short legs, other days long to get the bites. I hate to tell you this but you should just probably experiment (sounds too generic). Good luck to you.A:
Nope. I like to trim mine about 3/4 of an ich, but an inch is fine. Remember, the more you trim the legs, the less drag with water, so it will want to walk- the-dog more. The longer you keep the legs, it will chug more. Chugging is just a straight retrieve with some twitches; it looks like a frog "doing the worm".

I only trimmed mine 1/4 of an inch. I'm sure you could go for an inch but I doubt that 1 inch is too short.

It all depends on how you like to fish it... If you want to walk it more than chug it, you should cut it relatively short. How ever if you just want to chug it forward dont cut the legs. Leaving the legs also helps the likelyhood of a good hookset when you are fishing on matted grass or othe floating vegetation because it makes the back end hang lower in the water. I had a snapping turtle bite off about three inches of the legs of mine and it still catches bass so legs or no legs, this thing will probably always catch bass. Good fishing!A:

Get a black one and a white one (Tropical white), that should cover 95% of your fishing, Use the white one on sunny days and black on dark days. All they are seeing is the bottom of the lure, no need to go hog wild. The natural red has worked pretty well for me also.A:
There really isn't a "best" color. Just get the three basic colors. Yellow, green, and black. Use lighter colors such as rainforest yellow or tropical white when it is hot and there is little cloud cover. Use darker colors such as black or natural red for cloudy days, or when it is night. Natural colored frogs such as leapord, natural green, and green tree are a good all-around frog to use in most conditions. It's also important to expeiriment with different color patterns to see what the fish in your area prefer.A:

Green Tree and Natural Red work best for me and are the only two that I use. Seeing that you're in Charlotte, I would bet that these two colors would do good on Lake Norman.A:

It all depends on the situation. My favorite colors for frogs is green (pumpkin also) and darker colors (brown/black). It doesn't mean the lighter colors won't work. On cloudy days, a lighter color pops more & can be seen by the fish. If the water is murky is another way to make sure the bait is seen.So, you probably should go with a few different colors to fit the situation. I am going to be buying a few of these myself and I am picking #01, #02, #11 or #08.

I use the darkest color i can get away with and if that fails i go to the barney color. My favorite color is Black though.

I use two colors of this frog. I like the Black Widow in low light conditions like fishing a dusk. The color that I have caught the most fish on is the Lepord color. If you find that you a missing fish, trim the legs down a litlle bit. It made a big difference for me

If your not sure about what color to buy just get natural red(brown) or natural green.natural red is for muddy water or overcast skies.Natural Green is good for bright days and clear water.But Dean Rojas crushed um' up in Wylie back in 04' with black so dont count that color out!

Fish this bait over the top of grass and places of cover. Either walk the dog with it or kinda pop it and let it sit for about 20 seconds or less and then pop it a little more. Even if it isn't the popper frog this method will still displace water and it works for me. Hope this helps.

There are plenty of times and places to fish this. First, color is very important. Depending on the time of year, the weather, water clarity, your choice of a color will make a difference on whether or not a bass will hit it. I would suggest doing a little reading on which colors work best for which situation to help you with that.Otherwise, lily pads, weeds, hydrilla, millfoil, are great places that bass wait for their prey to swim on by.
The way you fish it makes a difference too. Sometimes, the bass can't stand when a frog just sits there and then makes a quick move and stops again. Other times, you have to work it kind of like a buzzbait but with little hops in the water.
Also, don't forget that if you know how to skip these guys, under docks and low lying brush along the shoreline are where many bass also are waiting to pounce.
I hope this helps! Just keep trying and maybe get a few more colors to help.

Try to fish in weedy areas and ares with alot of algae or lily pads. Also, fish with twitches for about 4 or 5 feet across the water. Let sit for 5 to 10 seconds and then do one twitch incase one is looking at it and repeat. Hope this was helpful.

Try a different color or use this one when the color is right. Next, pay attention to where frogs are. Get this lure over lilypads and brush and any other stuff. It's worth it.Hope this helps!!!

Going along with what NickJr said, just cast it up on the bank and bring it in. Sometimes it helps if you bring it from the bank to the waters edge and then make the frog go crazy like being chased from a snake or something. This is sure to trigger any nearby bass. Hope this helps!!!

Off the banks or anywhere there is cover hanging over above(trees, brush, etc). great for lillys and weedy areas. when in the lillys or weedy cover, throw it past an opening and bring it to it, let is pause for a second or 2 twitch it a little reel it in 6-8 inches and repeat. when you do get a strike, dont get excited and set the hook right away. wait two seconds then set the hook. a lot of times bass will slap at the frog to stunn it. hope this helps. I have found that you need to fish the frog from the bank, not 2 feet off the bank, but on the bank. To be sure I do,I land the frog 2 feet on the bank and pull off. It catches bass by surprise instead of letting the bait scare the fish away with a big thud on the water.Images for this Answer
