And all Rapala saltwater lures are built tough to withstand the rigors of the big water environment, with seven coats of paint, PermaSteel hooks and fittings to ward off corrosion, and securely attached lips to take the beating of oyster shells and coral. Every step of the way, Rapala lures are manufactured with the finest materials and craftsmanship that have made these "The World's Favorite Lures!"
I can't get these things to dive while trolling all they do it skip on top of the water. I try trolling around 7 knots. Anybody else have this trouble or know how to make them dive better
I frequently visit a pier that hangs over the Atlantic Ocean, its about 30-40 feet above the water; can this lure be used for that pier? If not, is crank baiting in general possible from a pier that high above the water?
Yes you can. The negative of being that high up is that it changes your angle of retrieve, which will make your lure run shallower than it otherwise would.
To increase the depth the lure runs at, add an in-line weight 1-3' ahead of the lure.
My biggest concern when fishing from such a height would be what happens if you hook a REALLY large fish?
Crankbaiting is not easy or very effective from atop a high pier because of the high angle of your line the lure is only allowed to dive to a very minimum and mostly will just flounder on top. I would highly recommend jigs or sinking swimmers from a pier. Good luck!
These are deep lures, so IF musky are deep, they may get down to them but these are also fairly fast lures & musky tend to prefer slow bait so they would not be my first choice.
Only if the fish are at a great depth which is not likely. Muskies like noise and flash in the surface to three foot depth range. Of course, there aren't any Muskies in Florida!
