I'm guessing yes, but does anyone know for sure? Can you mount the bracket so the motor can go on either the left or right side? Being right-handed, I think I would want to have the motor on my right, not on the left as it would be as shown in the photo on the website.

Yes, as long as your gunwales protrude toward the interior of the canoe (as is almost always the case), this mount will work with your canoe.

I have a brand new long shaft, Honda 2HP outboard mounted on my 16 ft. Fiberglass Old Town Katahdin. The mounting bracket I am using is the Old Town bracket sold here. My problem is, when I go at a little faster rate of speed the engine shaft is causing a "wake" that then goes up the wall of the canoe and over the gunnel. The engine only weighs 26 lbs and my boat has a fairly flat bottom and sits high out of the water. How can I prevent this?

Same problem with my 2.5hp yamaha on 18' Grumman. Answer was simple. a piece of thin pliable plastic such as that from a 5 gal pail, cut to fit a 2ft long spray shield and attached with duct tape. worked like a charm.

A:
Why not just attach the motor to the transom of your rowboat? The boat is most certainly set up for that purpose. Unless you mount the bracket far forward, you would not be able to span from gunwale to gunwale, necessary for stability. Would not seem like that would be a productive place from which to drive the craft.

How does this motor mount attach to a canoe? My canoe does not have a flat end for a motor. Thanks.

The bracket connects across the top of the canoe to the gunwhales at the back of the canoe. This bracket holds the wooden block beside your canoe for the motor to attach to.
