These boots are only about 16" high. Do not expect them not to get water in them when wading in the river or trout streams. Otherwise you can.

That would depend on the size boot. I wear a size 12 mens and they are not heavy. I hiked 2 miles in them with no problem

absolutely...just keep in mind that they are men sizes, so if your child can get by with the smaller sizes... go for it!

Not sure what your kids age is but I use these for my son and daughter ages 10 and 14. I had to get a mens size for my daughter,. I just followed the conversion chart and the boots fit great.

The size sevens I got are 16" high; other sizes may vary slightly. I normally wear a size 8 boot, so I would suggest you get six.
