Fishermans knot with a little tag, pulled tight to the bottom of the eye. Mono 10lb because it floats.

I prefer mono for most hardbait topwater situations. Try the Rapala Knot tied directly to the nose ring of the popper. Just Google the term "Rapala Knot"...you'll find it.
