I like mono for topwater fishing. Fluorocarbon sinks and may actually make your topwater fishing more difficult. With topwater there isn't a lot of guess work when the fish strikes so I don't see the advantage of fluoro's sensitivity for topwater applications.
Mono is cheap, forgiving, and very castable, which is a bonus when you are throwing lighter topwater baits. The stretch of mono also gives a little and absorbs some of the impact of a fish during the fight. Therefore I prefer mono for treble hooks for that very reason.
