Yes after first use it broke, made new block out of treated 2x4 worked ok but not very stable bracket! made my own bracket.

The required space is 3.5'' x 4'' mounting footprint, so if you have that amount of space on your transom then you could use it.

Bracket satisfaction

Details: 
If I used the bracket only with the boat in the water (not on a trailer) and secured the bracket with a screw in the hole provided, would it work satisfactorily? My only purpose would be to approach quietly into redfish territory.

I see no reason that it wouldn't... In fact, I have given consideration to almost the same thought-- Believing that the extra screw would both take any noisy slack out of the mount, but also make for a stronger mount as a whole. My thought is to use a thumb screw, so it is easy to part the mount as originally designed-- just one extra step.
