Reserve capacity is the number of minutes a battery can maintain a useful voltage under a 25 ampere discharge.

The higher the minute rating, the greater the battery's ability to run lights, pumps, inverters, and electronics for a longer period before recharging is necessary.

The 25 Amp. Reserve Capacity Rating is more realistic than Amp-Hour or CCA as a measurement of capacity for deep cycle service.

You would need two 12-volt to make a 24v system. See the Product Description tab to see the rating. Any one would work.

Yes, it should charge the deep cycle battery. Also, you might purchase the Minn Kota® On-Board Alternator Chargers item number 38-529-604-00, which will let you charge the battery using your Alternator.

I have a 16' Malibu Extreme Kayak with a minnkota 46lb thrust trolling motor, what is the recommended battery for this and what is the amp hours of the recommended battery. I am looking for something that I can go out and enjoy fishing on the ocean with no worries of power issues. But on concern is I cannot exceed 8" in hieght but I can lay it on its side if allowable and the weight is a second factor.

Details:
I just purchased this battery (size 27) based on a suggestion from a BPS employee. I have always known Deep Cycle to be for electronics (not starting the outboard), but the employee was confident that this was a good battery for what I needed.

I have my big motor, structure scan, two fish finders/gps units, all of my pumps, lights, flashers, etc... runing on this battery. My exisiting battery can't make it a full tourny any more (unless I run a lot), so when I explained this to the employee, he said this battery would be my best option.

Is he right?

A:
There is generally no problem with this, providing that allowance be made for the lower cranking amps compared to a similar size starting battery. As a general rule, if you are going to use a true deep cycle battery as a starting battery, it should be oversized compared to the existing or recommended starting battery group size to get the same cranking amps. That is about the same as replacing a group 24 with a group 31. It will not hurt a deep cycle battery to be used as a starting battery, but for the same size battery they cannot supply as much cranking amps as a regular starting battery.
