Inside dimension of the case is 51-3/4".

While you may find that the length dimension works, it may be the height that is the problem (only with a rifle with a large scope). While the pillar design adds structural stability to the case itself, it reduces the inside height dimension. You want your rifle and scope to "float free" in the padding, and not be in contact with the structure of the case (or pillars) to directly absorbe any shock.
