This call is tricky at first.I didn't understand the instructions. What I did was squeeze the red plastic to get the right coyote howl. I'm still working on the bark. I hope you find this useful

I purchased this call a few years back and I am very dissatisfied with it: especially after recently purchasing another howler.

A good hard blow will get you the high pitch tone of the howl. It also can help to pinch the tube. I took me a little practice to get it, but eventually it will come. Unfortunately it probably wont sound great. Another problem is that it is difficult to control the volume.

In my opinion, this howler requires a lot of air. By the end of one sequence of short barks and a howl, I'm ready for another breath of air. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure plenty have mastered this call, but I'm not one of them. I can do it, but I just don't get the desired result.

If it's not to late, I would try to return the call and get the lil' dog pack. It includes two calls and a CD. These are open reed calls which I was hesitant to purchase because to be honest the looked cheep to me.

The beauty with these calls is that they are so easy to use and you have a great deal of control.

You can bark, howl, and do both cotton tail and jack distress calls with these. All of which are amazingly easy to do. The versatility is just wonderful.

The cd provided is also a god send if your not able to pick it up right away. each call has the letters a,b,c,and d etched on the side which corresponds to the CD.

Even if a return is out of the question, I would still pick this pack up. You will NOT be disappointed and a guarantee the only posts that you will be wanting to make for these calls is a 5star review!

Good hunting!

It's basically a small, simple musical instrument. You blow through one end, and with your hand (or hands) on the other end you wrap your thumb and pointer finger around the call and create a "chamber" of air (as if you were cupping a trapped insect between your hands). Then blow through the call, opening your hands as you call, and the sound will change as the "pocket" of air that you created with your hands, changes in shape and size.
