No - it was not meant to replace mono and should not be used for that.

I just got this line and I was wondering if all braided line looked so much like string, because the fish can just tell that the line is there cant they? I read that a 45 pound line is good for bass fishing using topwater equipment? Please help me out I dont really know if I got the right thing.

More or less - some is a tighter braid and some is made from tougher man-made material but pretty much all of it looks like string if you look at it closely.

There is no reason at all you need 45pound sting for bass fishing at the most 20 pound you need to set ur drag so that your line don't break set it so that you can just be able to pull it out a little bit with out breaking your line. You want it so if the fish take off on a run it will take your line out not break it. Not all braided line are the same and the thickness varies. Braided line is made for open face reels to not closed. Spider wire is thin but strong line. Fire wire is the same. But the bad part is after a month or two it starts falling a part. Gets Stringy I dont recommend it Mason Big Cat line doesn't fall apart it But it is thicker. If you are worried about the fish seeing it Use a Steel Leader at the end of ur line. Steel is strong and thinner.

Yes to some extent all braid does, now, thinner braid, will look less like it, however, the 45# braid for bass, is just way to heavy, I bass fish most of the days of the year, well over 250 days a year, im out bass fishing, and honestly, for top water, you could use a 25# braid, but if you're going to go with mono, i would reccomend no more than 17#, cause, it will get too thick, and as another reviewer said, catfish arent line shy like bass, so it doesnt matter if you use the heavier # test

A:
Well most braids look like string of some time simply because thats what they are. Heavy line is good for bass if you are fishing in very heavy cover like lillypads or hydrilla. With that being said catfish are not line shy and will bite on any hook regardless of the string. Bass however are line shy and you will have much better luck with 25 lbs clear mono. If it is a braid that you are after for bass then this is the wrong stuff. They do have thinner braids like spiderwire that will work better for you.
