Details:
I have the 3.5-9x40mm conquest scope. I noticed that the elevation and windage nobs pull up and like unseat themselves. It's not broken because the instructions said something about the nobs being able to be pulled up but it wasn't very clear at all. But you can pull them up and rotate them around then push them back down and they go back to normal. Does anybody know why?

A:
That all depends on the barrel diameter. On a heavy barreled rifle high rings should be used. On a sporter barreled rifle medium rings work well. Low rings with a 44mm objective get a little to close to allow the barrel to vibrate freely, but on the 40mm, low rings is what I would buy for sure.

Depends on your personal preference, how high do you like your scope? You may be able to get away with a low on a 40mm objective, depending on your base rail and barrel/receiver but I think medium is a good place to start.

It holds up to my 300 rem ultra mag and I will buy it from you if it won't take the recoil of your 338. Other words yes they are very tough scopes.

I would a use a 6.5 -20 or something in that field but on the other hand our military snipers only use fixed 10 power scopes. The thing to remember when looking into high powered scopes is heat mirage. The higher the power the more heat waves it will pick up so consider the part of the country the scope will be used. I've made some 500-600 yard shots with no problem using a 12 power scope and thats as much power as I will use unless target shooting.

Longer ranges like the 500-600 yds. is going to require higher magnification. The 4-14X44mm w/Adjustable Objective has the RZ-800 Reticle, which you should fine quite valuable at those distances. Mount it w/ Talley Rings & start testing ammo.
