Yes, this item needs to be mounted on the back of the boat (see photo below).

(A transom is the wide, usually flat area at the very back of a boat. This is where an outboard motor is typically mounted.)

It puts the tow rope up above the motor and gives it a single pivot point as well.

The towbar will allow the pull to be centered on the boat making it easier to steer, it will also keep the rope out of the water which will result in less drag on the tube and boat allowing the tube to ride better on the water.

This is for use with skis and towables. Just make sure it will mount correctly in the spot you intend to place it on your boat.

How much room does this take to mount with the legs? Example distance from main post to each leg? Also which seat base do I need for this and does the post screw into the base?

The legs adjust from 33'' to 56'' and you will need a threaded 3/4'' pin type base to mount.

No this ski tow is not designed to be used with equipment that’s tied to the tow rope such as tubes and wakeboards.
