A:
A Zara spook or a Tiny Torpedo are excelent topwater lures for any pond if you are looking for bass and there is tons of help on how to use them properly and they are easy to create your own technigue. Any stickbait will work though since ponds are usualy more calm and lazy than lakes or rivers. The more rough the water is the more noise and speed the lure is a good rule of thumb. Buzzbaits do a good job if it is nightime or the water is rough, also they have the advantage of maximizing how many zones you fish since they are a fast retrieve.

My best advice is go with the classics and move from there to new designs. they are classics for a good reason.

Color will vary depending on the water clarity mainly, but there are many factors in choosing a lure color. the more murky the water the darker the lure is always a good bet. Thats why there are hundreds of colors for each lure type and nobody can suggest 1 color for everything.

Hope that helps you.

can't beat the Zara........I've fished them for years but you need to add a split ring between the hook and lure body...you will hook more fish !

the heddon zara spook is undoubtedly a successful classic, but if the pond you fish doesn't have highly agressive bass or is heavily fished I wouldn't recommend this bait. Try something by xps brand, especially the XTS series I have had much success with that series. Try getting a color that is bass resembling, maybe a green color, and white is always a success. Maybe a chrome colored white with a black back perhaps. Get a zara spook too and test it out though.

Id say the best topwater lure hands down is the Jitterbug. Any couler will work but for night fishing I like plain black... good luck

Frog color?

Details:
Is the natural frog color, not the bull frog color, only good when used in areas that have a lot of frogs or have lilly pads? Or can it be used around matted vegetation no mater how many frogs there are?

Depending on your school of thought, some think color matters, others say it doesn't matter at all. I would say throw the natural frog color wherever you feel, especially if it fits in. I have thrown that color in clear ponds and lakes with little vegetation and it works just as well as any other color. The idea is to match the surroundings, so go with your gut.

to be honest, i dont think the color on these things matters. i use alot of different colors and they all seem to work fine. im not really sure what this bait imitate exactly, but i would imagine it would be a dying minnow due to the skinny profile and side to side action. tight lines
