They scare me...I would hate to lose the fish of a lifetime because I was in a hurry or lazy...it would weigh heavy on my fishing attitude...Personally I use a nail knot, has never failed me...

A:
I had an authorized Orvis dealer tell me that he has used one of these for almost 12 years without replacing it--in that time he has caught steelhead and mackinaw. My experience is that they would, if connected properly. They seem indestructible.

A:
If this is the torpedo shaped connector, which I believe is what you are asking about, you push the end of the fly line through one side and out the middle. Tie a small knot in the end of the line and pull it back into the connector. Do the same with the heavy end of the leader and you have a smooth connection that will slip through the guides (if necessary) quite easily. Be sure you have the correct size for your fly line or it won't fit.

A:
1. Thread your fly line through the hole on one end, bring it out the side, and tie an overhand knot.
2. Thread the butt of your leader through the hole on the other end, bring it out the side, and tie an overhand knot.
3. Clip the excess tag off the knot in your line and leader, and then pull the knots inside the connector.

I purchased the larger size to use on an 8wt line. It works just fine with an assortment of different leaders.

A:
my experience is that the larger size connects a fly line (even a heavy ended shooting line) to a leader, while the smaller works well for leader-tippet connections.

A:
I would suggest small size for 6 weights and under. Use the medium connectors on 7 weights and greater.
