I have a single wall aluminum boat.
Should I use pop rivets or nut/bolt with some kind of gasket ? I would like to mount them along inside of wall,lower.

A: 
I would not compromise the side of your boat with rivets or bolts. I guarantee you that would leak evenually. Weld an aluminum bracket on the side wall if you must have it there or just attach it to the middle seat on the opposite side you fish. Mine is on the middle seat and it works great.

A: 
The but end of the rod is free inside the tube. The reel is what supports the weight of the rod in the notch on the tube.
This also keeps the rod and reel from rotating during travel. They work great in a boat.

I mounted it so that it fits just in front of my reels on one end and about a foot from the tip on the other. It holds securely that way. I guess you could hold it on the butt end if you wanted.
