Ouside on vehicle roof?

Details:
People keep saying "mounted on the roof", then it turns out they mean inside on the ceiling. I have a Mitsubishi Montero and I fish the beaches of Baja. Need to throw a couple of assembled rods and reels on the roof (OUTSIDE...... 12' surf rod don't fit inside a Montero) to cruise the beach. Will this rack work for that?

Thanks, Phil

Hey Phil,
I have 4 of these. 2 on the inside top of my van and 2 on my truck hard top. I think that they would stand up to the wind pressure. But definitely put socks on your rods.
PS my van vibrates pretty much due to the heavy tires. I would also just make sure you put the reel toward the front of your vehicle

If these two holders attach with "screws", how does one use screws on the celing of a $ 25,000 vehicle? Not trying to be smart, but attaching these to the inside roof of my van is not practicle with screws. Otherwise, I would be VERY interested in getting these to transport my rods. Thanks,
Bernie

We use Machine screws with flat washers and lock nuts sealed with silicone in our $1500 pickup caps, it voids our warranty but thats not a $20,000 vehical. Did use a model that was like a sling with velco holders in my old Ramcharger but they now have some that fit in the ceiling that have different mounts from window trim wedges to coat hanger mounts. look for those

A:
you need at least a half inch thick ceiling to screw into. Any thinner than that and you would drill through. You could glue some wood to the ceiling and screw to that or just try glueing the holders.

A:
If your roof is metal, try Clear Silastic. If you have a cloth liner, depending on the weight of your poles, Velcro strips. Most vans' liners have a backing that permits a space between the liner and the roof enough for screws.

A:
Mine screw into the roof of the cap that goes over the bed of my pickup. The roof is about 3/4 to 1 inch thick so the screws won't go all the way through. Just don't use a screw gun or they will strip out the fiberglass.
