Customer Reviews   Description   Outdoor Answers
One of the most productive big bass baits of all time, the Hula Popper elicits bone crushing strikes. Its concave mouth creates loud popping sounds and a bubble trail, while the hula skirt offers a seductive bit of fish attracting flash. Can be plunked, popped, twitched or jerked, and the slower you fish the Hula Popper, the more fish it pulls from cover to the surface.

A:
Just throw it along the lines of weed beds, bass beds in the spawn, along or between spread out lilly pads, or just out in shallow water. Pop it along so that it looks as though it is spitting water up.

Use your rod tip to twitch your line to get a nice sounding "pop" and you have it mastered. Hang on tight and good fishin'.

It might be a bit heavy of a line for a top water unless you are using flourocarbon. Generally fish it around rip rap and other sorts of cover. Give it a pop or two and then let sit shortly. Change up the pattern of the pops so to make it look more sparatic.

Spro makes a soft bodied weedless frog with a mouth like a popper that may be what you're looking for.

The 5/8 oz Arbo Hula is the biggest I've seen. If you're looking for more sound and action it might be you just need to vary your retrieve more.

not really. It's like a tail on a kite. But you can buy just skirts.

A:
I use these almost exclusively as my go to topwater lure. I have never used it without the skirt but I think you could. The skirt adds motion to the sound, a combination that appeals to bass (and many others!). Having said that, the lure will still float and "pop" without the skirt, you just won't have the movement. Now you've got me curious, I'm going to try it!

A:
Yes, I lost my popper last year while teaching my daughter how to use it. It was so old the skirt was worn off.

Bass didnt seem to mind as it jumped out of the water and made off with it. I was so upset I had it for over 10 years.

Purchased a new one and it is so fun.

Yes, it will. It's a lot less weedless, but I have skirted and unskirted, and they both get'er done.

A:
Yes it will work without the skirt, but you will have to work it more like a Pop-R. The key to the skirt is you can let the bait just sit and the skirt still moves.
