I believe the answer to your question is yes. While saltwater fishing in Mexico and boating at Table Rock Lake MO. this summer, it seemed to work as advertised. I was well pleased...However I think the manufacture must better explain how this works...

The hat does not have vents on the sides or top. It is very light and for some reason, it doesn't seem to get uncomfortable in the direct sun.

i'm sorry to say that no this hat is not vented, but surely should be. Nevertheless it was comfortable; it provided great shade and glare protection eventhough I was in the tropics this summer saltwater fishing off Mexico, I really didn't overheat.

The hat is not vented, because of the light wait fabric used, really doesn''t need vents.
