Okuma's Serrano Low-Profile Baitcast Reels deliver the silky-smooth performance, lightweight toughness and compact, easy-to-palm design anglers want to have when chasing big fish in either fresh or saltwater. The Serrano Reel's tough ALC (Alumalite Construction Frame) die cast aluminum frame keeps the heavy-duty, Dura brass gearing, drive shaft and other components in precise alignment even with all the stress that heavy-loads and braided lines create. The left, aluminum sideplate is easily removed to allow for quick access to the adjustable 8-position Velocity Control System. The Serrano's machined aluminum, anodized high-rise wiffle spool maximizes line capacity while its high-grade, precision Japanese ABEC-5 spool bearings are incredible for free spooling. Although the Serrano offers a compact, low-profile design, its multi-disc carbonite drag system gives it 11 lbs. of big-time stopping power. Okuma's CRC (Corrosion Resistant Coating) penetrates and protects all internal and external metal reel components to ensure the Serrano thrive in the rigors of saltwater.

  • CRC process shields and protects internal and external components
  • Durabrass gearing is super strong lets you handle big fish
  • Quick-set anti-reverse roller bearing
  • 8-position Velocity Control System
  • Ergonomic handle design allows cranking closer to body
  • Zirconium line guide inserts for use with braided line
  • Serrano reels are backed by a 3-year warranty

On paper, the Okuma seems to have a slight advantage with a few more bearings and offers a better warranty. Should I go with an Okuma Serrano or Revo S for my first baitcaster?

The worst reel I ever owned was an Okuma. The old solid white model. Couldn't throw it without backlashing and I'm no novice. Pretty hard to get a "bad" reel with an Abu Garcia.

A little late for the answer here, If you haven't decided yet, go with the Okuma. Its virtually maintenance free, with a 3 year warranty. It's lighter and has quicker response. Less than 2 hours after purchase I landed a 16 inch Large Mouth and a 14 inch Small Mouth, and this reel out performed any reel I have used before. I didnt even notice strain on the assembly when I brought in a 7 pound Cutbow Trout from Lake Amador
