Spool design

Details:
I see how the spool slopes up the sides a little. How will this affect putting line on the spool because to me it seems like the center would be loose.

Keep the line spooling in the center until the line you have spooled on "levels out", meaning you have filled the valley. I do this by adjusting the drag; when I need the line to "skip" a section, I loosen off the drag and turn the handle unitl the line retreiver is back to where I need it to be. Then I tighten the drag down and reel in more line. Repeat this action until the line you have spooled is even across and then you can spool as normal.

The slopes are there to keep the line running on the spool evenly and to add strength to spool itself where needed most. Doesn't affect the action of spool or amount of line it holds. I spool mine with close to 400 yards of 30 lb. test mono.

Not a bad rod, but you can't throw it as far with a shorter rod like that. I suggest maybe a 12 or 13 foot Meathunter rod. You can throw over 100 yards easily with either length rod and a 6 to 8 oz. weight.

A:
Gotta check your weight size as well. Lighter the lure/weight, lighter your line has to be to get decent casting distance as well. With my 14 ft. river rod and 8 oz. weight, I have no problem throwing mine out 125-150 yards from the bank below the dam. All depends on what you use and what you're trying to do with it. If you're using smaller baits/weights/lures, you need to switch to a lighter class reel. This reel is designed for chunking large baits with large weights long distances.

A:
Try opening up the reel and give it a good cleaning. Even if it's brand new there may be excess grease on the gears wich oddly enough will cripple your casting distance. I learned this the hard way with my last Quantum reel. Clean all the dirt and grease out and put a small amount of oil on the gears/bearings. This made a huge difference for me when I had this problem.

use a hevier weight for hevier line it also depends on the rod you are using. if you are still wanting to cast the same baits use smaller line like 10lb. you should also try to oil the points where the spool touches the reel

A:
If your reel has seen significant use, I would say your problem is the reel needs cleaned. Any build up around the spool and internal parts will cause excessive drag on the spool, slowing it down therefore reducing your distance. Try this; remove the side plate and spray with Reel Magic or KVD Line & Lure conditioner. Spray inside the cover where the magnets are. I dont know how heavy the lures are you are throwing but 3 sounds a little tight on your setting. I usually set mine on 1, Don't be afraid of the line you are using. I have three of these reels and I use 20, 17 and 15 pound floroucarbon without any issues. I also use Reel Magic or KVD Line & Lure conditioner on the lne also, makes the line a little "softer" which might help your distance.

A:
Abu Garcia ambassadeur series baitcasters are among my favorite reels to use. Have several different sizes and all perform flawlessly and are of excellent quality. Very easy to use and durable reels. Some of the bass pro series reels I've had excellent luck with, and some are just not very durable, too much plastic inside when should be metal. Depends on what you're trying to do with them. Quantum reels are of excellent quality and durability as well. I'd rank them up there with the Abu Garcia stuff. Haven't had any problems with them at all. Hope this helps.

i have two and love mine the thing i would look for in a reel is if you can take the side plate off with 1 button not because i use extra spools (too expensive $30 for most) but for mantance

A:
It's outstanding. Great quality material, stand up to the heat and cold really well for me. Use it for everything pretty much and the reel is effortless and the sensitivity on it is amazing with a 6:3:1 ratio. I recommend it.

Not as smooth as my carbon black. But it is a decent reel. It is a smaller reel than the Bass pro reels that I own. I can feel the difference on the retrieve, but it also $30 less.

A:
it is a switch on the side of the reel that when you put it in the on position when you let up on the cast button it emiditly returns and stops the spool insted of staying down untill you start to turn the handle

A:
when you flip it on it disengages the spool so you flip your bait without pressing the thumb button.

A:
It puts the reel into flipping mode. It stops the spool when you relase the thumb-bar.

I have both of those reels. I like the flippin switch on the KVD reel. Both cast well with the same number of bearings. I love topwater. With the KVD reel I use the flipping switch on so when the bait hits the water you are ready to set the hook. With the Johnny Morris you have to set the reel. Hope this helps>

They are both good reels for the money. They share similar features and are both very well preforming. I have had two of the KVD signature series reels and havnt had any problems with them. This reel works as well as my quantum energy pt. The johny morris reels are very good too.my buddy has several of them and he has had good luck with them. I have use them a few times and like them alot too. I think that they are pertty evenly matched but i think that the kvd reel casts farther and reels a bit better but the johnny morris reels are a bit easyer to tune. The spool tension it a bit tricky to get right on the kvd reel but is compinsated by the great breaking system on them. I hope this help you in your choice.good luck!

A:
remove the cover on the palm side of the reel. Inside you will see numbers from 0 to 6 that is how many brakes you want for casting. The more brakes the harder it is to backlash. I would recommend starting with 4. So rotate the centeral ring until the mark on the side of the ring is at the number 4. Then put the cover back on and try casting, and if too tight open it up and go back 1.

Yes; Definitely set the inside to 3-4, before you ever start casting. The red dot is on the outside of the #'s. Just rotate it around to the 3 or 4 position, on the inside dial. Then, close the cover and set the outside to 5-6, to begin dialing the reel into your casting style.

IT IS SIMPLE I KEEP TWO WHITE BRAKES ON AND TWO RED BRAKES ON, MAKE SURE THE BRAKES THAT ARE ON ARE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDES OF EACH OTHER NOT NEXT TO EACH OTHER. THIS IS FOR LIGHT LURES AND HEAVY LURES JUST ADD ONE MORE OF EACH COLOR.

Its really quite easy. Once you take off the side plate, you will see a dial numbered 0-6. The outside ring has teeth or grooves cut into it. You set it buy turning the OUTSIDE ring until the SMALL WHITE DOT corresponds to the arrow next to your desired number setting. Personally, I keep mine set on 3 or 4. This setting in concordance with an outer setting of 5 gives me great castability and few if any backlashes. One other recommendation - buy some Hot Sauce OIL and lube all the spool bearings and the worm gear regularly. This will greatly improve the performance of this reel. Hope this help and good fishing!

Go for the middle tier KVD, smoke pt, or bass pros pro qualifier. The cheap KVD is well, cheap. It's worth the extra 50-100 bucks for em

A:
Unless you got the money to blow.. maybe start with a flueger or daiwa baitcaster should be around 50 dollars on the cheaper side. But start with a cheap one until you know you want to really start using one. Some people just don't end up liking them
