I don't think you would need to take it apart, It collapses quite short.

I don't think you can carry this on since it is flammable. I am not even sure you can check it through because of the contents and if you do you need to declare it I am sure. Good luck!

The weight of the pole itself is basically nothing, the handle is comfortable and I don't think it occurs to you that you're carrying weight while it's being used.
