Personally I respool a rod even if it comes with line already. The reason I do that is, line gets old as it sits exposed so I always spend the $7-$8 for new line just for the reassurance that there is new line on the reel. Berkley Trilene Maxx or Big Game is pretty good in the 12# range for just about everything.

These rods are very strong, and cast well. These are not super sensitive jigging rods; but very good baitfishing rods.
