Seeing how you are a budget spender I can understand the you would want to get the best you can for your money. First you need to answers the questions in regards to where are you going to fish. How clear is the water is it clear, muddy, or some where in the middle?
If the water is clear you need to use more natural looking baits such as watermelon seed, green pumpkin, black, laminate, watermelon pearl, red shad green flake, red shad, bumblebee swirl, dark grasshopper, dark watermelon, and ultimate craw. If the water is some where in the middle of clear and muddy then these colors will work grate. Black neon, watermelon red, Ozark smoke, smoke red pepper, Cajun neon, Cooter brown. I have to say that green pumpkin neon works grate in the partly muddy water. If the water is really muddy colors like bubblegum lemon swirl, crawdad, and Virgo blue will work

I have used the smoking rooster for any number of things, including a trailer for my swim jigs. My preference is to use it keel weighted, and swim it along, but it worked very well on swim jigs as well.

5/0 owner wide gap

A:
I use size 5 wide gap hook for the regualar bush hog with a 1/2 oz tungstun weight. It penetrates the cover very well. If the cover is really thick I peg the weight and flip it hog high so it drops stright down through the cover.
