its about 3 1/4 inches at the wide part this is for scooping minnows out of a bucket its not 18 inches like that other guy said perfect if u r in a boat and might lose your net overboard

The handle does extend to about 4' adding you arm length of 24" and you have about 6'.

no but the float will move up and down the handle so the metal sticks out higher above the water level close to 9 inches long
