CA Department of Fish and Game allow for a 4 hour course; however it requires students to complete the online class or complete a full home study course prior to registering for the 4 hour follow-up class.
In a continued effort to reduce firearm accidents, the State of California requires all first time resident hunters, regardless of age, to complete hunter education training or pass a comprehensive equivalency test before purchasing a hunting license.
Bass Pro Shops in cooperation with the California Department of Fish and Game conducts Hunter's Safety Education Courses. The course and required testing must be completed with a score of 80% or better before you can obtain a hunting license. Each student is required to have 10 hours of ‘instructional time’ which should not to include signing in, breaks and testing. Traditional classes generally range from 13-14 hours over a 2 or 3 day period. The DFG has designed a couple variations to the class allowing students to do some home study time instead of having to spend so many hours with an instructor. This 4HR Follow-up class is one of the variations.
