Drift anchors help keep you in perfect position, whatever type of presentation you require.

Fishing the wind has many advantages. Wind blows concentrations of plankton toward the shoreline, plankton that baitfish feed on, which attracts gamefish. Wind creates wave action that stirs up the bottom, knocking rocks around that expose crawfish and attract predators. Wind also puts a chop on the water that helps make your topwaters and spinnerbaits look more realistic to that bass staring up at it from below.

Inability to control the boat, however, deters many anglers from fishing these highly productive wind-ridden areas. Drift Anchors from Bass Pro Shops can tame those waves, though, and help keep you in perfect position, whatever type of presentation you require.

For drifting live bait across flats, deploy two Drift Anchors off one side of the boat. This will keep your craft positioned evenly as you drift the flat. By slowing down the drift, you'll also keep your bait in the desired area longer.

Bass anglers pitching to the shore can deploy one Drift Anchor from the stern to help keep them from blowing past the best-looking areas. Slowing the boat allows for more casts made to fishy spots. The Drift Anchor also helps keep anglers off the shoreline being fished, while cutting down on trolling motor use.

Drift anchors can assist in trolling by slowing the trolling speed. They can also help anglers maintain their desired course when trolling in high winds. When trolling in water with a heavy chop on top, deploy a Drift Anchor at the bow of the boat to keep the bow from bobbing up and down.

Bass Pro Shops' Drift Anchors are made of reinforced nylon that won't fray. A resistance-free lanyard attaches to the small end of the cone, allowing you to collapse the Drift Anchor and empty the water before bringing the sock back to the boat for easy retrieval.

Drift sock, drift anchor, boat brakes, sea anchor -- whatever name you prefer, these devices can be attached to your craft in a number of ways to slow you down and help keep you on fish. If you fish the wind, give your trolling motor a break and give these Drift Anchors a try. You won't regret it.
