Berkley Portable Line Spooling Station

As we're all well aware, tactics used throughout the season can vary widely, and each presentation seems to require a specific type of fishing line in very precise line sizes. For instance, frigid water usually equates to vertical spoon jigging or a drop-shot rig. And while I prefer the exact same action and length spinning combo for both these vertical presentations, I usually prefer 8-pound fluorocarbon with the drop-shot rig rather than the 10/4 braid I use with jigging spoons.

The need to constantly change line is what tempted me to try out the Berkley Portable Line Spooling Station, which really makes changing line easy. Before the Spooling Station, I had to find someone to hold and place tension on the spool of line while spooling up my baitcast reels. If alone, I had to hold the rod with my palm with the line between my fingers with one hand, tuck the butt of the rod into my gut, and then turn the reel with my remaining hand. Both of these methods worked, but the line never went on as evenly as it should have, and achieving consistent line tension was impossible. Berkley's Portable Spooling Station eliminates both these problems entirely.

Berkley Line Stripper

Making the process of changing old line even faster, the spooling station includes a battery operated line stripper. The line stripper runs on two AA batteries (not included) and removes old line from your reel in seconds. The stripper also has a hook-sharpening stone, making it an excellent tool to keep with you while on the water.

This unit requires very little space for storage, and it is easy to set up and use. When not in use, the parts of the spooling station fold flat on the board. If you wanted to keep it on board your boat for quick on-the-water line changes, you could easily do so without sacrificing valuable boat storage space.

To those anglers who find themselves switching out line regularly throughout the season, I highly recommend the Berkley Portable Spooling Station. It's quick, convenient, and the line tension consistency can't be beat. And while tournament anglers might be the ones who benefit most from the unit, I would also recommend it for the occasional angler as it allows more time to fish and less time spent spooling up.
