One of the first things I noticed about the rod was its blue blank and bright thread wraps.

Saltwater rods need to be extremely tough.  A lot of the fish that get caught offshore are excellent at putting stress on a rod when they start ferocious runs or put on a show of dazzling acrobatics.  But does that mean that you need to pay a lot of money for a quality saltwater rod?

Since its inception, the Offshore Angler brand name has been building a very solid reputation with saltwater anglers and guides.  If you get a piece of gear stamped with the "Offshore Angler" name on it, you know you're getting a great piece of equipment, and even better; you'll probably save quite a bit of money on it too.

The Offshore Angler Extreme Rod is no exception.  It is built to work hard, but it isn't too hard on the eyes.  One of the first things I noticed about the rod was its blue blank and bright thread wraps.

But looks aren't everything - first and foremost, rods need to work. And when it comes to research and development, the folks at Bass Pro Shops are unsurpassed and it shows with this rod.  The design staff for the rod determined that E-glass is still the best blank material, but they took it even further and, applying the Slit Carbon Powerwall Construction process to further enhance the hoop strength and sensitivity.  A feature found on many Bass Pro Shops rods since 2000, the Powerwall Construction is a special proprietary process to enhance the hoop strength while still maintaining the lightweight performance today's anglers demand.  A slit carbon filament is wound outside the entire length of the blank to yield a strength enhancement of up to 40-percent of any given material.

To keep those sea-dwellers in line, the rod has braced chromed stainless steel guides and carbide tiptops, so your rod will be fine when those monster start surfacing and bending the rod every which way, and your superline is screaming from the reel.

For ultimate control and comfort, the Offshore Extreme Rod comes with a triangular foregrip and has a capped gimbaled butt for when you gotta brace up for the big ones.  And did I mention that it's a great-looking rod?
