The entire reel was built around an infinitely adjustable offset disc drag mechanism recognized for its dependability.

Orvis is well known for their quality fly-fishing gear; and for good reasons -- they've been making it for a very long time.  In 1856, Orvis was founded by Charles F. Orvis in Manchester, Vermont.  In 1874, Orvis invented the first ventilated narrow-spool fly reel to be mounted upright -- the prototype for the modern fly reel.  Many other accomplishments and inventions have been brought to the world of fly fishing by Orvis, so you can see why their name is trusted in the world of fly-anglers.

The original Battenkill reel carried on the tradition of excellence, but the new Battenkill Barstock Reel took it a step further.

First off; the reel is 20-percent lighter than the original Battenkill reels.  This is mainly because it is machined from bar stock 6262-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum in the England Orvis manufacturing facility.  The machining process makes it extremely durable as well as lightweight.  To keep that frame looking good and to protect it from saltwater, the reel has an anodized titanium finish.  The electrical process of anodizing makes for a much more durable surface than a painted or baked finish.

The entire reel was built around an infinitely adjustable offset disc drag mechanism recognized for its dependability. Each reel also features brass gearing that is durable and virtually maintenance-free allowing for easy switching from right to left hand operation.

If you want a great reel that you know you can trust to never let you down, then check out the new Orvis Battenkill Barstock Reel.  Its Stainless steel gearing is durable and virtually maintenance-free. And its adjustable Rulon offset disc drag mechanism recognized as the most dependable in the industry.
