Let's face it; if you fly fish, then you're going to have plenty of annoying insects around you.  It could be anything from gnats to mosquitoes.  And if you're standing in the middle of their stream, those annoying insects are going to come after you.

With all the news going around about the West Nile Virus, folks have started taking their insect repellent methods a lot more seriously.   You outdoor folks should take the appropriate measures to keep the insects at bay.  As a lot of you know, the West Nile Virus isn't the only thing that you can pick up from an insect bite.

There are over 200 species of mosquitoes in the United States alone, and they can carry such diseases as maleria (even in the USA), dengue, yellow fever, and much more -- including West Nile Virus.

As for ticks, we've all heard of getting lyme disease from them, but there is also the risk of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, human monocytotropic ehrlichiosis (HME), and babesiosis.

When out in the wild, you'll also encounter those nice swarms of gnats, horseflies, and chiggers. While these don't carry as many diseases as mosquitoes and ticks, anyone that has gone home with legs riddled with chigger bites will attest to the extreme discomfort it causes.

I didn't present this information to scare you, but rather as a reminder to keep yourself protected while outdoors.

Ultrathon Insect Repellent is a great product to keep those creepy-crawlies at bay.  It uses patented 3M Controlled Release Technology that was developed to give US Military personnel long-lasting protection in challenging situations.  The repellant was tested in the Central American jungles by the military, so you shouldn't have to worry about bug protection while fishing your favorite stream.

The special release technology makes Ultrathon slow to evaporate, which allows it to continue working long after other repellents have dissipated.  There is no need to worry about the lotion washing off either -- it resists rain and water splashes, so while it's not waterproof, it will stay on you unless you decide to take a little swim.  It also resists perspiration, so you don't have to worry during those scorching days on the water.

One very important feature of the lotion is that it doesn't stink.  It has a nice, mellow scent and the tube is the perfect size to fit in your fly vest.
