Winter Canoeing
Larry Whiteley
Canoeing the cold water.
Larry Whiteley

A definite plus for winter canoeing is you don't have to worry about bugs, sunburn, or too many other people. With the departure of summer crowds, the woods and waterways seem to come alive with wildlife. The winter woods are a brand new world and will certainly be different from what you remember of summer.

Before you toss your canoe onto the roof of the car and head for the put-in though, take a few precautions. Don't go alone, make sure you stay dry and warm, start early and stop early, set a definite schedule with launching and pick up time and stick to it.

Maybe it sounds a little tough or dangerous and of course it is a little but it's a wilderness experience not to be missed by any outdoor enthusiast.
